At MyLocationApp, your privacy is a core engineering priority. Unlike many location utilities, we do not require user accounts, we do not store a history of your GPS coordinates, and we never sell or rent your personal location data to third parties.
1. How We Process Location Information
Our tools operate using two distinct location methods, both designed to minimize data exposure:
• Hardware GPS & Wi-Fi Positioning (Opt-In Only): Precise device location is accessed strictly through your web browser's standard W3C HTML5 Geolocation API and only after you click "Use Precise GPS" and grant explicit permission in your browser prompt. Coordinate calculations (such as DMS, UTM, MGRS, Plus Codes, sunrise/sunset, and moon phases) execute locally in your browser's JavaScript engine.
• IP-Based Approximate Location (Default Fallback): Before you grant GPS permission—or if you use a desktop computer without GPS hardware—our server performs an ephemeral lookup of your public network IP address to estimate your general city, region, and time zone. We do not log or build profiles from these IP lookups.
2. Reverse Geocoding, Elevation & Map Tile Services
To translate raw latitude and longitude numbers into human-readable street addresses, county boundaries, ground elevation, and interactive map visuals, your browser or our proxy API communicates with external geospatial data providers:
| Function | Service Provider | Data Sent | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| Interactive Map Tiles | OpenStreetMap / CARTO / OpenTopoMap | Map tile bounding coordinates & standard HTTP request headers | Renders street and topographic map imagery in your browser |
| Reverse Geocoding & Boundaries | OpenStreetMap Nominatim / BigDataCloud | Latitude & Longitude pair (or search query entered by you) | Returns street address, city, county, postal code, and boundary polygons |
| Terrain Elevation Lookup | Open-Elevation / Open-Meteo DEM API | Latitude & Longitude coordinate points | Returns ground height above mean sea level in meters and feet |
When our server proxies a reverse-geocoding or elevation request on your behalf, temporary responses may be cached by coordinate grid for a short period to reduce latency and respect upstream rate limits, without any association to your identity, browser session, or IP address.
3. Cookies & Browser Local Storage
• Local Storage Preferences: We use your browser's native localStorage solely to remember your visual interface preference (such as Light Mode vs. Dark Mode under the key geo_theme). This data remains on your device and is never transmitted to our servers.
• Cookies: Our core geolocation and ephemeris tools do not set tracking cookies or require session cookies to function.
4. Server Logs & Security
Like virtually all web servers, our hosting infrastructure maintains standard, short-term HTTP access and error logs (which may include request timestamps, requested URL paths, user-agent strings, and IP addresses) strictly for network security, abuse prevention, rate limiting, and diagnosing technical errors. Internal API endpoints are protected by cryptographic HMAC tokens to prevent unauthorized automated scraping.
5. How to Manage or Revoke Location Permissions
You are in full control of your browser's location permissions at all times. You can revoke location access for this website at any moment through your browser settings:
• Google Chrome / Microsoft Edge: Click the tune/lock icon on the left side of the address bar, toggle Location to off (or click the reset button), and reload the page.
• Apple Safari (iOS & macOS): Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Safari Websites, or click the website settings icon in the Safari address bar and set Location to Deny or Ask.
• Mozilla Firefox: Click the permissions icon next to the URL in the address bar and click the X next to Allowed Temporarily / Allowed under Access Your Location.
6. Your Rights (GDPR, CCPA & Global Privacy Standards)
Because we do not collect personal accounts or store personal location histories on our servers, we hold no persistent personal profile linked to you. You can clear any locally stored theme preferences at any time by clearing your browser's site data for this domain.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect technical improvements or legal requirements. Any updates will be posted directly on this page with an updated revision date at the top of the document.
