This interactive map shows the entire world's time zones at a glance, along with the live moving shadow of night and daylight. Whether you are calling family overseas, scheduling a work meeting with an international team, or watching live global events, you can see what time of day it is anywhere on Earth.
1. Why Is the Day and Night Shadow Curved on the Map?
At any moment, half of the Earth is lit by the sun and half is in nighttime darkness. When you flatten the round globe onto a rectangular map, that border between day and night (called the terminator) forms a smooth wave:
• In Northern Summer (May – August): Because the North Pole tilts toward the sun, the sunlit area stretches all the way across the top of the map, giving northern cities in the US, Canada, and Europe very long summer evenings while countries in the southern hemisphere have shorter winter days.
• In Northern Winter (November – February): The wave flips—the top of the map sits in the dark shadow for most of the day while Australia, New Zealand, and South America enjoy long summer daylight.
• Around March 20 & September 22 (Spring and Fall Equinoxes): The sun shines directly over the Equator, so the day/night line becomes straight up-and-down and everywhere on Earth gets 12 hours of day and 12 hours of night.

2. Tips for Finding the Best Time to Call Another Country
Use the "24-Hour Time Zone Overlap & Meeting Matrix" table at the bottom of this page—all normal daytime hours (8:00 AM to 6:00 PM) are highlighted in green. Look for a vertical column where both your city and the other city are green (or light gray for early evening):
• US East Coast ↔ Europe (UK/Germany/France): The easiest overlap is US morning (8:00 AM – 12:00 PM Eastern), which is afternoon in Europe (1:00 PM – 5:00 PM in London, 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM in Paris/Berlin).
• US ↔ East Asia (Tokyo/Singapore/Beijing) or Australia: Because these regions are 12 to 16 hours ahead of the US, regular 9-to-5 work hours rarely overlap. The most comfortable window is usually 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM in the US, which is 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM the next morning in Asia and Australia.
